Champions’ Cup is Taken Home by Winner of „Rally Talsi 2012” Jānis Vorobjovs

The Rally of Champions ended on the Sunday afternoon with a battle for victory in the very last stage between Andis Neikšāns and Jānis Vorobjovs. After the first day of „Rally Talsi 2012” Neikšāns was leading by 1,67 seconds with Kaspar Koitla in the third place, but that was about to change in the last 21 competitive kilometers of the rally.

On the second day Neikšāns was building a gap between the closest follower Vorobjovs, and in the last stage Vorobjovs had to find extra 8 seconds to even up and had to push very hard if he wanted to win. Neikšāns did not expect him to do that so he was taking it easy without a risk of making a mistake, but in the SS 10 Vorobjovs was flying and at the finish line won the rally by only 3.74 seconds.

Andis Neikšāns first after day one in „Rally Talsi 2012”, Mads Ostberg out of the race (VIDEO)

The opening day in „Rally Talsi 2012” completed and local crew Andis Neikšāns/Pēteris Dzirkals are first only 1,67 seconds ahead of their closest follower Jānis Vorobjovs/Guntars Zicāns leaving Raimonds Kisiels/Arnis Ronis in third.
After the „Rally Talsi 2012” opening ceremony in Talsi town centre all the crews where heading to four all-gravel special stages and a CVS parallel super special stage. Andis Neiksāns, driving a group N Mitsubishi Evo X, set the fastest time on stage one but WRC driver Mads Ostberg was 4th quikest with his all-new Mitsubishi Evo X.

Raimonds Kisiels set the fastest time in „Rally Talsi 2012” shakedown (VIDEO)

The all-gravel shakedown completed before the start of „Rally Talsi 2012” and Raimonds Kisiels, driving a Mitsubishi Lancer WRC, set the fastest time out of 30 crews attending this 5,2 kilometre stage.

Mads Ostberg, driving a group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, finished second ahead of Latvian rally champion Andis Neikšāns only by 0,09 seconds.

Champions ready for a battle in „Rally Talsi 2012”, Mads Ostberg testing Mitsubishi Evo X

Yesterday a press afternoon of „Rally Talsi 2012” was held in Riga, „Ātruma Cilts” Go-Kart hall. It was attended by rally organizer Raimonds Strokšs, three champions – Norwegian Mads Ostberg, Lithuanian Vytautas Švedas, Latvian Andis Neikšāns and „MML Sports” Managing Director John Easton.
